Not really coffee shop, a Mexican cafe/diner. Quirk of the local lingo to call them "coffee shops"? I'm sayin: no expresso.

Traditional Mexican cuisine. Its been a locals favorite for years. My mother invited me here. Had the lunch special, "Mexicana". 2 enchiladas, taco of 'carne picada', rice, beans, a small soup, and a drink; all for $5.99.

One of the perks of going back home to Brownsville is eating great Mexican food. Since I'm no longer an insider, I rely on my family to direct me to where this can be found. I hear murmurings of Antonio's; Bigos; Kiki's; Yoli's, but not the one outside the neighborhood, the one on the other side of town... but only one restaurant elicits a unanimous cry of approval: Fina's.
Sunday brunch needs no mimosa; limonada is fine alongside my chorizo, huevo, papas y queso served up on delicious tortilla harina. I find out later that it would have been the perfect day to order barbacoa--fresh out of the ground on Sunday's after been slow-cooked to tender perfection--but not even the "barbacoa that could have been" can detract from my satisfied belly. They may occasionally skimp on their chorizo, as evidenced by my brother's plate. In any case, they leave one wanting more, but not really being able to fit more in one's stomach.
